Match Report

In a match sponsored by FRANK R. MARSHALL & CO, Chelford hosted Langley at Peover Lane on Saturday.

Skipper Krish Bhardwa won the toss and asked Langley to bat first on a green looking but flat deck. He was quickly rewarded with a wicket second ball. However, Luke Unsworth (19) & Tom Pattison (24) then shared a slow but resilient second wicket stand of 48, to deny Chelford any further in-roads, as Rory Prentice & Krish Bhardwa probed away on a slow pitch.

It was only with the introduction of spinners Andy Duffy (4-40) & Hash Vora (1-31) that things started to happen. Both bowled really well with guile, flight and turn as the runs dried up and the wickets fell. After 35 overs Langley were in a heap at 83-6 and Chelford were in charge.

Enter veteran Rick Hollinshead, who used his experience to good effect, and took on the bowlers. A fine knock of 58 not out followed as he rallied Langley to 142 all out in 46 overs. A good, but sub par score in the conditions.

With last weeks nightmare start still fresh in minds, a gritty effort was expected from the Chelford top order. It failed to materialise. In fact, with the exception of 25 from Andy Duffy & 5 from extras, the rest of the batting managed only 17 between them.

A truly dismal effort with the bat after a great effort in the field. Next week.....Table topping Disley away. Hip flask please waiter!
